Persona 5 Calendar Guide

Persona 5 Calendar Guide: What to Do Every Single Day in Persona 5

Perhaps the scariest part of Persona 5 is its calendar year. You play through almost an entire year as Joker, the leader of the Phantom Thieves. Nearly every day, something significant happens or allows you to do whatever you want. Playing through so many days is why the game is so massive. But I hope to help you out with this Persona 5 calendar guide.

You see, going through all of the many days in Persona 5 and its Royal expanded version can be daunting at first. Thankfully, with a little help and some solid ideas for what you should do each day, you can complete most of the crucial tasks that the game offers you.

In the end, I made this Persona 5 calendar guide based on how I spent my days in the three playthroughs I’ve done for the game so far.

Bottom Line Up Front

Persona 5 is a massive game because of one element alone: you play through nearly a full calendar year. Unlike most games that skip around a lot in a timeline, you see Joker’s life for almost an entire calendar year. As such, you play nearly all of those days as him. Sure, some days are throwaway ones that don’t have much happen on them.

But most others let you choose what you want to do that day. Explore dungeons, steal the hearts of bad guys, hanging out with friends, and work jobs, are just some of the many activities you can do.

Persona 5 Calendar Overview

You and I spend every day in the real world. The new day starts at midnight, likely while we are asleep unless you work the graveyard shift. If that’s the case, I feel for you, having done it myself. We go through our mornings, lunch, afternoon, evening, dinner, and nighttime, and then repeat the cycle all over again.

So, it may seem odd that you have a video game where you go through all of those same motions yourself. That said, Persona 5 is one of the most liberating games I’ve ever played because of that same calendar cycle.

It is the same reason I love other games like Stardew Valley and Story of Seasons that let you go through the entire day and spend however you want. There is something so freeing about choosing what you want to do in a game like Persona 5.

This is especially the case when there isn’t any of the pressure and expectations you have in the real world. If I want to ignore saving the world for a few days and work at the flower shop hidden underneath Shibuya Station, I can do that and not feel stressed or concerned like in the real world.

But the Persona 5 calendar year can be stressful for some players since it can be quite overwhelming. Thankfully, I have the cheat sheet for you below.

Persona 5 Schedule Explained

persona 5 schedule

Basically, how the calendar in Persona 5 works is that players go through nearly an entire year playing in the life of Joker, the leader of the Phantom Thieves in the game. Coming off of getting into trouble with the law, you get to decide what happens to Joker for his next year.

You play the beginning of the massive JRPG near the start of April and play through the end of December in that same year. This is because the calendar school year in Japan generally begins in the spring in April and carries through until the winter holidays, though it also goes past that.

However, this is only the schedule if you play the base Persona 5. More than likely, today, you’re playing Royal, the expanded version. In that case, you can optionally play a third semester that involves some of the days in January and February of the following year, too.

So, you have nearly ten months of content to explore at the fullest. Let’s break it all down even further.

How Days Work

During the roughly ten months you play as Joker, you experience nearly every day and every moment he does. Outside of when he showers and goes to the bathroom (though you can literally do that, too, if you want), you experience nearly every second he does.

Sure, there are some time skips every once in a while, but you live from his perspective for an entire year. You wake up in the morning, get on the train to go to school, sit in class, and then decide what happens afterward. You see every conversation he does and experience every moment of his life as him.

It is honestly revolutionary what Persona 5 does in this manner. But this is a video game, so there has to be a game theme to everything you’re doing. How Atlus gamified the daily system in Persona 5 is that you usually have two time segments per day: after-school or afternoon and nighttime.

Most of everything else that happens in the game, like in the mornings, is automated, and you watch it happen with some input occasionally. But once the school day ends, you are free to do whatever you want until the sun sets.

Then once you have done one time-consuming activity in the daytime, it will switch to nighttime, where you sometimes (but not always) have the opportunity to do another time-consuming activity. When all is said and done, you go to sleep at home at Cafe Leblanc and start it all over again the next day.

Activities You Can Do

Now that you know how the days work in Persona 5, here are some of the activities you can do to spend time in the game. To be clear, exploring the world, looking around, purchasing items at stores, and talking to random NPCs on the streets won’t speed up the time.

What does speed up time are certain activities like exploring a dungeon and then concluding your exploration there, which will fast forward time. Hanging out with your Confidants in Persona 5, which are your best friends, to build your level-based relationship with them will also take time.

Here are some other myriad activities you can do, many of which you’ll see and do yourself further below if you follow our calendar cheat sheet:

  • Hanging out with the Confidant friends
  • Working a part-time job
  • Playing minigames like batting cages, darts, and billiards
  • Eating food at a restaurant
  • Watching a movie
  • Playing video games
  • Reading a book
  • Crafting
  • Taking a bath
  • Studying
  • Working out
  • Raising social stats

Persona 5 Calendar: What to Do Every Day

Without further ado, let’s dive into every single day you play in Persona 5. This was a daunting task for me, but I came up with an entire schedule for the entire year that you play Joker. If you ever don’t know what to do and need some help, this cheat sheet will give you the right ideas of what to do for each day.

April

persona 5 april 9

April is the first month you play in Persona 5. Not a lot happens during this month other than the first dungeon, as your options are pretty limited. You get some freedom towards the end, but many of the events that happen are staged in the story.

Here’s what I recommend you do every day in April, including the daytime and nighttime segments:

  • April 9: First day of the story in Persona 5. Just follow the story beats, as you won’t get many options here.
  • April 10: The same thing as before. The story will automatically continue, so just sit back and enjoy the cutscenes.
  • April 11: More cutscenes will happen but you will have some more control and get to do fun activities in the story.
  • April 12: Not much to do here other than automatically rank up some Confidants. Just continue the story more.
  • April 13: The story will once again continue forward.
  • April 14: The story continues automatically.
  • April 15: You visit Kamoshida’s Palace. Complete the dungeon, but nothing else to do other than that.
  • April 16: Once again, nothing to do but follow the main story.
  • April 17: Daytime – Nothing to do but buy items and follow Ryuji around. Nighttime – You can craft for the first time, which the story forces you to do.
  • April 18: This is where your freedom finally begins, and you can choose whatever you want to do. Complete Kamoshida’s Palace entirely during the daytime. Sleep at night.
  • April 19: Daytime – Ryuji Confidant. Nighttime – Sojiro Confidant.
  • April 20: Daytime – Send the calling card. Nighttime – Craft infiltration tools.
  • April 21: Daytime – Finish Kamoshida’s Palace. Nighttime – Sleep.
  • April 22: Daytime – Study at school. Nighttime – Clean your room.
  • April 23: Daytime – Tae Takemi Confidant. Nighttime – Craft.
  • April 24: Daytime – Watch a movie. Nighttime – Take a bath at the bathhouse.
  • April 25: Daytime – Takemi Confidant. Nighttime – Sojiro Confidant.
  • April 26: Daytime – Study at the school library. Nighttime – Watch DVDs you rented for your TV or read a book you bought or borrowed from the school library.

  • April 30: Daytime – Takemi Confidant. Nighttime – Read a book at home.

How to Unlock Persona 5 Royal’s Third Semester

unlock persona 5 royal’s third semester

In Persona 5 Royal only, there is the option to add two extra months to your gameplay session. To do this, you’ll need to complete Dr. Maruki’s Confidant in time before a certain date in the game. However, if you’ve been following my schedule up until this point, you’re already good to go on this part.

In addition, I recommend maxing out Kasumi and Goro Akechi’s Confidants beforehand, which is something else that I helped with. A this point, you should be able to complete the third semester with no problem whatsoever.

Read on to see the recommended daily activities for the last two months of the game.

Question: What year is it in Persona 5?

Answer: The year in Persona 5 isn’t given out to the player. That said, it seems to be clear that the year is 2016 since the days of the week match up. This is also the year the game came out in Japan, so it makes sense.

Question: How Long is the Calendar Persona 5?

Answer: The Persona 5 calendar’s length depends on which game you’re playing. In the base Persona 5, it ends in December. But in Royal, it comes to an end in February.

Question: What Date does Persona 5 End?

Answer: Persona 5 ends in March, technically, but the last day you can somewhat pick what you want to do is on February 15.

With this cheat sheet, you are now able to thoroughly go through all of Persona 5 and Royal without a problem. This guide is all about maxing out all of your social stats and ensuring that you max out all of the Confidants in the game at the same time. This is the best way to enjoy the experience.

However, this daily schedule didn’t go into great detail about the Palaces and how to beat all of these tough boss battles. As such, I have another guide for you to Kamoshida, one of the main villains in the game. This will allow you to beat this first dungeon in the game successfully.
